Pet Nutrition Database from BioValidity Now Available to Veterinarians
LANSDALE, PA, May 1, 2001 - BioValidity's Pet Nutrition Knowledgebase, a comprehensive online source of dog and cat nutrition information and research, is
now available by subscription to veterinarians and other animal health professionals.
"Vets and other professionals hear clients' nutrition questions very day -- What food nutrients help dogs maintain healthy
joints? Does brewers yeast really repel fleas? What supplements will assist in preventing urinary tract problems in cats?
The PetNutrition Knowledgebase will help practitioners quickly separate the scientific fact from popular folklore, and reveal
the research behind the health claims." said Dr. David Hamlin, President & CEO of BioValidity, Inc., publishers of the online
knowledgebase.
BioValidity, a firm that has developed customized knowledgebases for the life science industries since 1996, previously
offered its Pet knowledgebase only to corporate and educational clients. BioValidity now is using an e-commerce system to
offer the PetNutrition Knowledgebase (PNK) to veterinary practices and other businesses including dog and cat breeders, pet
nutrition specialists, and others.
"We have received many inquires from veterinary practices that wanted to use our Pet Nutrition Knowledgebase," said Dr.
Hamlin. "Using our new e-commerce model, we can now offer our product to a broader market through individual and small
practice subscriptions. The comprehensive scientific research information available in the PNK will certainly benefit
veterinarians and other animal health professionals."
The PNK offers research data on canine and feline nutrition and contains information derived by reviewing over 16,000 research
articles from more than 750 journals.
Information in the PetNutrition Knowledgebase is searchable by nutritional substance, health concerns, and body systems. It
contains health benefit statements related to nutritional substances, interactions and precautions, and a "Learn More" section
for general information. A peer-reviewed rating system helps distinguish the health claims with "strongest science"
background to those with no scientific basis.
"Recognizing the importance of this information, and how useful it can be to professionals, we have developed a price
structure that's affordable to the individual practitioner and small business owner," said Dr. Hamlin. The introductory
pricing starts at $99/year for a single practitioner, and $399/year for a small practice with up to five users. Rates are
also available for larger practices and animal hospitals. Commercial and educational site licensing is also available.
BioValidity develops its knowledgebases in conjunction with university-based scientific research teams. The research team
identifies, organizes, evaluates, and consolidates research data. Then, an Advisory Board composed of industry-recognized
experts reviews and validates all research results. Through feedback from the review boards, advisory board, and clients,
BioValidity continually reviews and renews knowledgebase products for its customers.
Advisory Board members for the Pet Nutrition Knowledgebase include: John Bauer, DVM, PhD of the College of Veterinary Medicine
at Texas A&M; Tony Buffington, DVM, PhD of the Ohio State University Veterinary Hospital; David Dzanis, DVM, PhD, DACVN,
former Veterinary Nutritionist with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration's Center for Veterinary Medicine; Francis Kallfelz,
DVM, Ph.D., DACVN, of Cornell University's College of Veterinary Medicine; Prof. Dr. Ellen Kienzle of the Institut fur
Tierphysiologie in Munich Germany; Pedro Rivera, DVM, and Quinton Rogers, PhD, of the University of California's School of
Veterinary Medicine. The PNK Research Team is based at Texas A&M University.
